Cabbage Thoran

  • Cabbage - 100gm (cut into small pieces)
  • schallots - 3
  • coconut grated - 50 gm
  • salt
  • Turmeric powder - a little
  • Redchilly powder - 1tsp
  • Coconut oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • urad dal-1/2 tsp


1. Heat oil and add mustard seeds.

2. Add urad dal and heat it.

3. Add grated coconut.

4. Add vegetables and powders.

5. Mix it and close the pan with a lid.

Parippu curry (Dal curry)

  • moongdal - 100gm
  • coconut grated -1/2 coconut
  • Jeera - 5gm
  • Oil - 2tsp
  • Curry leave-1 stem
  • salt


1. Mix grated coconut and Jeera.

2. Heat moongdal in a hot pan.

3. Boil 1/2 liter water and add dal into that.

4. Add the coconut jeera mix into the boiled dal.

5. Add salt, curry leaves and a little coconut oil.

Dal Vada (Parippu vada)



















  • Bengal gram(Kadala Parippu) - 1 cup
  • curry leaves - 2stems
  • shallots - 6nos
  • green chilly - 2nos
  • red chilly-2nos
  • ginger- as reqd
  • salt
  • oil

1. Soak dal in water for 2 to 3 hours. Drain it for half an hour.

2. Chop curryleaves,shallots,green chilly,red chilly,ginger.

3. Grind the dal in a mixer into a coarse form.

4. Add the chopped ingredients .

5. Heat oil in a pan.

6. Make balls off the dough and flatten them into the shapes of vadas.

7. Fry, till they turn brown.

Coffee @MG Road

Today I heard a song from the album "Coffee @ MG road". Its directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan , son of famous Malayalam film actor Sreenivasan. Its music directer is Shaan Rahmaan.In an Interview they said that the album is the result of their talks n discussions in the coffee shops of MG road.that why they give the album name as COFFEE @MG ROAD. The singers are Vineeth,Shaan and some of their friends. Lyricists are Vineeth(Palavattom,college,Title song), Anil(Masha allah, Peydu peydu, poonkuyile) , Rajiv, Amrita and Arjun.
The song "Palavattom" , featuring Salim kumar who is a famous comedian in the Malluwood, is a superhit now. The other title "College" is about the college life which includes arts fest, canteen, Library, sportsday, Farewell etc. Other songs in the album are MashaAllah, PeythuPeythu,Poonkuyile.

Bavarian Potato Salad

Bavarian Potato Salad(Bayerischer Kartoffelsalat)

  • cooked potatoes - 800g
  • onion - 1
  • hot meat stock - 200ml
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Vinegar - 5tbsp
  • Vegetable oil or Olive oil - 5tbsp
  • parsley or Dill - 1 bunch


  1. Cook the potatoes in a big saucepan.
  2. Let the potatoes dry a bit, peel them while still hot, and slice.
  3. Peel the onion, cut into small cubes, and add to the potatoes.
  4. Blend the hot meat stock with spices, vinegar and oil, and pour over the potatoes.
  5. Add chopped parsley or dill, mix carefully and let the salad stay for half an hour before serving.

Wiener Schnitzel

Wiener Schnitzel (it means Viennese Cutlet)is a great Austrian recipe, escallops (thin slices of meat) breadcrumbed and deep-fried. Originally it is made with veal, but very commonly pork is used. It is generally served with Potato salad and a fresh lemon wedge to squeeze over the schnitzel.

Ingredients

  • escallops of around 120 grams each - 4
  • flour
  • eggs - 2
  • breadcrumbs
  • salt / pepper
  • oil for frying
  • lemon

  1. The escallops should be around a 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Season the escallops with salt and pepper.
  3. Take three bowls for eggs,flour and breadcrumbs respectively.
  4. Dip the escallops in the flour first,then in the whisked eggs and then in the breadcrumbs.
  5. Put oil in a large frying pan and heat.
  6. Place the escallops.(It will swim which is deep frying.Cooking time should not be more than 4 minutes for each side, or when it has the desired color, turn it.)
  7. Place the cooked schnitzels on a paper towel to soak fat from it.
  8. Serve hot with fresh lemon and potato salad in Viennese style!
