Chocolate Sponge Cake
Ingredients
- Butter (unsalted) - 2 Tbsp
- Eggs - 4 ( room temperature)
- Granulated sugar - ¾ cup
- Salt - a pinch
- All-purpose flour - ¾ cup
- Cocoa powder - ¼ cup
- Baking powder - 1 ½ tsp
- 8 inch round cake tin
Method
- Preheat the oven at 350°F or 175° C.
- Prepare the cake pan with a nonstick spray.
- Sift the dry ingredients ( flour, cocoa powder, baking powder) together.
- Melt the butter.
- Whisk the eggs(4 nos) with a pinch of salt until it is foamy. Add sugar a little by little to the eggs and whip for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Slowly add the dry flour mixture in halves to the whipped eggs mixture . Do not over mix.
- Add the melted butter slowly.
- Pour the batter to the greased baking pan.
- Bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out cleaner.
- Once the cake is baked, allow it to sit in the pan atleast for 5 more minutes and then slowly invert it onto a cooling rack.
